| Carburetor tuning takes time and is difficult to learn for many. Try to look at an adjustment screw as a clock and divide its rotation into 12 increments. Each adjustment is 1 hour. No adjustments take effect instantly, especially if the vehicle was idling for a long time getting the adjustment. Make the adjustment, take it out for a rip then do any other adjustments needed. | |||

| Airflow is restricted | Clean or replace air filter | ||
| Fuel doesn't reach the carburetor | Clean or replace fuel filter | ||
| Engine and/or fuel system has an air leak | Inspect fuel tank, line and engine for poor seals | ||
| Fuel mixture needles not properly set | Return needles to factory-recommended settings | ||
| Glow plug fails to function | Replace glow plug and/or change glow plug filter | ||
| Problem: Engine starts then dies | Solution | ||
| Idle is set too low | Adjust idle-speed screw clockwise | ||
| Low-speed needle is set to rich | Lean out low-speed mixture | ||
| Low-speed needle is set to lean | Richen low-speed needle | ||
| Clutch is binding | Take clutch apart, check spring and shoes | ||
| Glow plug is loose | Tighten glow plug, not over-tight | ||
| Glow plug is fouled | Replace glow plug | ||
| Piston and/or sleeve are worn | Replace piston and sleeve together | ||
| Damaged bearings in the clutch bell | Clean or replace bearings | ||
| Problem: Engine bogs with full throttle | Solution | ||
| Low-speed needle is set to rich | Lean out low-speed mixture | ||
| Clutch engages too quickly | Replace clutch spring/shoes | ||
| Glow plug is too cold | Install a hotter plug | ||
| Problem: Engine doesn't idle correctly | Solution | ||
| Engine might have air leak | Seal engine with silicone | ||
| Low-speed needle is set to lean | Richen low-speed needle | ||
| Problem: Engine bogs or dies at high speed | Solution | ||
| High-speed needle is set to lean | Richen high-speed mixture | ||
| Fuel flow is restricted | Clean fuel filter | ||
